Society and Service

What is Society
Society is group of peoples who lives with unity. Society does not happen when gather by chance, with no common goal of good.  The skill and intelligence contributed by individuals must flow freely, untarnished by egoistic desires along the channel of the spirit. That’s why society is described as four wheeled chariots, the wheels being unity, control, knowledge and power (Shakti).
Seva has important place in society. Seva can be identified by 2 basic characteristics ie. compassion and willingness to scarify.

Why to Serve the Society ?
We are born in society; we grow in society and our life ends in society. Our all activities are done in society and through society. We can not survive if society do not accept us. That’s why it is called that man is creature of the society and owes everything to society. So, we should be grateful to society for whatever we receive from it.
Society is the source of all pleasure we derive and wealth we achieve in life. Therefore, we should not be selfish about our skills and expertise. Rather use it for welfare of the society. So that we may repay the debt we owe to society by helping as many people as we can. With genuine love and spontaneity to serve we can experience happiness in any group or community.
Service broadens our heart, brings feeling of happiness and transforms community around us. Service is a product of love. All of us must explore and experience this truth. Baba used to say that by serving others we serve the divinity within that person.
